Thomas Norman DeWolf is co-author, along with Sharon Leslie Morgan, of Gather at the Table: The Healing Journey of a Daughter of Slavery and a Son of the Slave Trade (coming October 2012) and Inheriting the Trade: A Northern Family Confronts Its Legacy as the Largest Slave-Trading Dynasty in U.S. History (2008), both from Beacon Press. The latter is the companion book to Katrina Browne’s Emmy-nominated, PBS documentary of their family’s journey: Traces of the Trade: A Story from the Deep North, in which Tom is featured. United Methodist Women, the largest denominational faith organization for women in the United States, selected Inheriting the Trade as one of the featured books for their 2011 Reading Program. Tom speaks with students on university campuses throughout the United States about hidden elements of history, racism and intolerance, and illuminates a path toward healing and a more hopeful future. Tom graduated from the University of Oregon, served on the Oregon Arts Commission for nine years, and as a local elected official for eleven. Tom and his wife, Lindi, live in Oregon.
