Kate Cumbo

Director of Programs

Dr. Kate Cumbo is the Director of Program for the PeaceJam Foundation – a non-profit organization that connects youth with Nobel Peace Laureates and whose mission is to create young leaders committed to positive change in the world, their communities, and themselves.  As Director of Programs Dr. Cumbo manages a nationwide and international network of PeaceJam Affiliates and Chapters, develops PeaceJam’s award-winning curricular programs for youth ages 5-25 and manages PeaceJam’s professional development programs including the certification of trainers and online training systems.  Dr. Cumbo is an expert speaker, facilitator and trainer, with experience working internationally in conflict areas such as the Southern Caucuses and post-colonial communities in South East Asia and Africa.  Dr. Cumbo has Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the University of Colorado-Boulder and was Director of Service-Learning at the Colorado Department of Education from 1999-2004. In addition she has been an education consultant for national and international organizations such as the Corporation for National & Community Service and the Civil Society Institute. She has conducted trainings and keynote addresses around the globe on service-learning, youth leadership, program evaluation, peace education, assessment of student learning, social innovation, and global youth movements.

Emily Hine

Emily Hine has more than 25 years of experience in fundraising, marketing, public speaking, volunteer management and social change. Over the course of her career, she has designed and implemented large-scale campaigns that have raised over $150 million for nonprofit organizations. After 9/11, Emily quit her job at Microsoft in order to commit her life to expanding peace and compassion in the world. In 2008, she served on the Executive Team for Seeds of Compassion, a global event with the Dalai Lama that gathered 150,000 people and contributed to the worldwide compassion movement. While moderating a panel discussion, Emily made a commitment to the Dalai Lama to expand compassion education. As such, she designed and hosted The Shift Network’s 2015 & 2016 Global Compassion Summits. Emily is a Certified Compassion Cultivation Training™ (CCT) Teacher from the Center for Compassion Altruism Research and Education at Stanford University and she teaches the 8-week CCT protocol in the community and in businesses.

Emily also served as the Chief of Peace for and co-designed their first which has over 1100 graduates. Emily now serves on faculty for The Shift Network Peace Education Programs.

As CEO of HineSight Consulting, Emily partners with businesses, nonprofits and social enterprises that share the goal of increasing mindfulness, compassion and peace on the planet. She currently serves as Vice President of , an online medical clinic that offers a mindful and scalable solution for depression. Emily is also an inspirational writer and public speaker who shares practical strategies for doing our inner work, in order to become an expression of peace in the outer world.
